{ Whimsical wedding invites }

A while back, a very lovely and wonderful couple commissioned me to create their wedding invitations.  An invitation often sets the scene and feeling of a wedding and this Toronto couple wanted their suite to be hand painted and hand lettered, capturing their love, the love for their beloved dog and the city they call home! Their suite included a double sided invitation, a mad lib RSVP and a Poster inspired guest book.

I haven't had a chance to take styled photos yet (its on my list of things to do) but I couldn't wait to share this suite with you.

Good morning! Its a great morning in our house, the babe is sleeping and I am enjoying a little me time. Yay!

With Halloween fast approaching I thought it would be fitting to share some amazing Halloween themed wedding cakes that I happily discovered yesterday via brides and Pinterest (Gotta love Pinterest, its my new indulgence). The first darling cakes I found are by a super talented lady Shauna Younge, although I do not think the cakes were designed for a wedding, I think why not? Especially if you are like me and want a super intimate and small sized wedding. So lovely and sweet! I am a huge Tim Burton fan and was stunned when I saw cakes that were inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas and The Corspe Bride! (two of my favourite movies). Just think of how much fun it would be if you served your guests a piece from these Ghoulish beauties!!

Seating cards and plans have come leaps and bounds over the years, there are so many fabulous ways that you can invite your guests to take a seat on your special day ( I almost want to host a sit down dinner just so I can make some of these lovely cards) There is no limit to the imagination and to creativity when it comes to these tiny little cards. Yes they are often small, but there is no reason why they have to be small on style. Any bride can easily create cards and plans that compliment any decor or theme. I love this eco friendly alternative to tangible seating cards; the chalkboard plus it is such a sweet idea, don't you think? and lets just say that the modern illustrated cards speak right to the designer in me and they are gorgeous. If a chalk board seating plan or modern seating cards aren't your cup of tea adding a little greenery is great for any time of year. This seating card adorned tree is especially perfect for a fall or spring wedding and is so cute!

{ Decorative Paper Lanterns }

Photo credit + Tutorial: Martha Stewart

With the first birthday of our baby girl fast approaching I've started to think about decor for the big day, even though it isn't until January I think that it is never too soon to start planning something so special. I found these beautiful decorative paper lanterns from Martha Stewart, oh Martha you always share such lovely things. These lanterns are fabulous as party decor for a birthday or wedding and as a way to dress up a room, with or without a light.

{ DIY: bunting }

Via Pinterest: Dessert Table

If you aren't on the handmade band wagon I seriously suggest you join because there is some really great stuff happening on that front. If you can dream it, you can make it or probably track someone down that does, and isn't there just something so special about handmade goods? I think so. I recently made some fabric blocks for the bean, and they aren't perfect but that is what makes them oh so special. Bunting Flags are all the rage right now, and they do look sweet over a dessert table, in a nursery or even or a bed (skies the limit folks). So in celebration of DIY here is a bunting tutorial (traditional triangles) for all you crafty friends out there and one that is a little less traditional bunting tutorial (rounded). Anything vintage is also really hot right now so why not try some vintage fabric for these projects?

Old Fashioned Candy Bar: Best Friends for Frosting

Yesterday my little family and I went to a barbecue at a friends house (who sadly we do not see often enough) only to find out that she recently got engaged (we are overjoyed for her and her husband to be) So exciting! I am literally jumping up and down for her on the inside. This wonderful news got us to chatting about venues, dresses and all the wonderful things that go hand in hand with wedding planning (I am a bit biased when it comes to weddings, I LOVE them). Since our friend is quite the baker, and hostess (the next Martha Stewart) I thought it would be fitting today to share some wedding dessert ideas beyond the cake!

If you are anything like me you may have a bunch of paint chip samples lying around the house from the last time you decided to paint a room. If so you are in luck because I recently came across the cutest idea of how to use up those old paint chip samples via the amazing blog How about orange. These super cute boxes would be perfect for favours for a wedding, don't you think? You could collect a whole bunch of different coloured samples to use or work within your colour palette. However you decide to use these darling boxes, I am sure they will delight your guests!

The weather outside is beautiful today, and I can't help but think about summer weddings. Today I am thinking about wedding decorations, and ways that you can add a little extra special touch to your big day adding to all of its lovliness!

{ MSW Summer 2011 }

Its that time of year again Summer, and with the warmer weather and sunny days comes wedding season. I am delighted to say that the 2011 summer issue of Martha Stewart Weddings is now on sale and is a DIY issue (Design It Yourself + Do It Yourself). I just love the idea of brides using a bit of their design savvy skills and handy work to help celebrate the big day, it makes it that much more special. This issue is sure to be filled with wonderful ideas and beautiful photography. I especially like the idea of decorating a simple cake with paper posies, just lovely.

Here is a little invitation that I designed for a delightful, and fun loving couple. Their wedding suite included an invitation and a double sided response postcard. The couple was greatly inspired by mid century illustration and wanted their love for this art era to be communicated in their invitation . It was so much fun working on this invitation set!

{ Happy Weekend }

Do I have a treat for you today, I was recently perusing one of my favourite wedding websites
100 Layer Cake and came across a lovely wedding post for a couple in Copenhagen. The wedding was stunning, but what really stood out was the giant gorgeous paper flowers that the bride and mother of the bride made together! I especially like how only one big flower was centred on each table, so sweet. Feeling inspired I searched the web to find a tutorial on how to make these beauties.

Although these flowers are a wonderful edition to a wedding celebration they can be used for other celebrations as well, such as a birthday party or even a baby shower. I am feeling crafty, so this weekend I am planning on making some of these flowers for my up and coming baby shower, I think they will make a lovely and unique addition to my shower that I am sure will delight my guests!

I hope to post some photos of my project soon!

{ Harvest Hues }

Happy Monday everyone! I am in the process of designing a new collection for fall/winter 2010 and wanted to post a little inspiration board I've been working on. I've really been loving the colour yellow recently, so I decided to base my first board around this autumn hue. Since I also really love Modern design I tried to keep things simple with small hits of black here and there.
I love, love, love Vera Wang, all of her designs are so lovely so of course I had to include some of her designs for fall 2010 on my board. Enjoy!

{ Floral inspired Thank You Card }

With summer coming to an end and fall just around the corner, I wanted to share a couple of floral inspired thank you cards that I worked on recently. The colours, and pretty flowers are reminiscent of a summer time garden.

{Thank You Cards}

Recently I have been getting a lot of requests for thank you cards from some of my favourite couples. I was excited to get the opportunity to work with them again and create something very special that they can send to family and friends.

{ Some New Designs }

It has been a few weeks since my last post and I finally have a few spare minutes to sit down, say hello and share some recent designs.

Amy + Neil Wedding Invitations

This was a wonderful couple that I loved working with and I had a great time designing their wedding suite. Amy had such a lovely, and fun personality that was reflected in her invitations and colour scheme. The couple also had a personal story about a donkey, and wanted to include it on their wedding stationery, to be a bit more playful! Loved it!

{ A little bit of Autumn }

Just a quick little post to share an invitation that was born during a recent trip to Starbucks. Although summer is just beginning in Toronto, I am already beginning to think about the upcoming fall season and possible designs. Hope you enjoy!

{ Happy Weekend }

{ Kelly + Ben }

Today I am posting a wedding invitation suite that I designed for a good friend of mine and her fiancée. The main inspiration for the wedding suite design was their love for nature. The main invitation was printed on seeded paper, and I incorporated a graphic rendering of a birch tree. The birch tree holds a special meaning for the bride and groom as it is indigenous to the area where they live and where the wedding will be held. The wedding suite also included a whimsical map.
